Update 13

06 July 2025 - Team Championships of Schleswig-Holstein Group J. Due to the cancellation of GC Plöner See, it was a game-free Saturday and the direct "fight" for promotion on Sunday against our neighboring club GC Am Donner Kleve. The team WhatsApp was already working overtime days beforehand, as the line-up - as always - is a persistent challenge for captain Frank Möller. It never works without turnover shortly before the game. But once again, our captain had a lucky hand with his final line-up. After the foursomes in the morning, the score was 2:2 - everything was open. The weather got progressively worse, but not our team's play. When the missing ½ point was reported by Marita Thomsen at 6.59 pm, promotion to group "I" was perfect. This I looked and felt like 1. Winning as a team is simply fun and motivates you for more! The match was ultimately won 7.5 to 4.5 and captain Frank Möller was able to take a deep breath - done and "ready for more".

Fairway 9 RED - By now we Apeldörers know most of the weak spots on our golf course. Heavy rainfall results in wet areas that cannot be mowed and therefore cannot be played. One of these areas is or was on the left side of the red 9, approx. 100 meters before the green. Our greenkeeping team has now dug a drainage ditch here, which should make the area drier. The reason for this can be seen in the different colored soil layers. Approx. 20 cm of topsoil and then a thick layer of clay interspersed with marl = impermeable!

This area is now a red marked penalty zone, which will help in terms of play.

The rough area had often swallowed up untraceable balls, affected the speed of play and cost Stableford points. Now it "costs" one stroke less compared to a lost ball.

Lane 7 YELLOW - Maybe you haven't even noticed it yet because you always play straight ahead. But when the ball turned to the right and landed behind the hedge rose zone, a red penalty area was marked. Nobody could see from the tee whether the ball was actually lost in this penalty area. But it was at least a welcome solution, even if it didn't comply with the rules. Apart from that, it was a lot of extra work for the greenkeepers to keep this area clean with the brush cutter. Now the red markings are gone. So if in doubt, please remember to play a provisional ball - preferably in the direction of the flag.
