Club Championships 2025

New (old) club champions

The club championships were held for the 27th time from August 8 to 10, 2025 on the 27-hole course at Golf Club Gut Apeldör - the sporting highlight of any golf club. Every year, our greenkeepers aim to get the best out of the course and, after 120 liters of water the previous weekend, this challenge was a feat of strength and ultimately a masterstroke. With a green speed of 3.10 meters, all 64 participants had to be very "handy" to avoid too many strokes on the scorecard. Many thanks and compliments to you dear Nico and your greenkeeping team for what you have achieved this year in addition to all the other tasks.

Three days of glorious weather and an exciting competition right up to the last day. Live scoring enabled all members to follow the progress from Friday afternoon from home and it was exciting.

At the start of the final round on Sunday morning, Monika Schmidt was still 8 strokes ahead of "old champion" Marita Thomsen. But form on the day and the famous little bit of luck often make the small but decisive difference. And so it was, as Marita started a successful race to catch up and ultimately won by three strokes. Conclusion for all golfers: never give up!

In the men's competition, four players - Mark Sörnsen, Joshua Bohling, Klaus Wandmaker and Sven Wermke - were close together before the final round with a difference of just four strokes. Perfect tension for a championship. The age difference between these 4 was 50 (!) years. What great news for our sport, where young and old can play a competitive sport together. This year, Joshua Bohling, the youngest, won by three strokes, just like the ladies.

A big thank you and respect to the members who, although they have no chance of winning the title of club champion, nevertheless provided the sporting framework. Simply sending 15 "contenders" for the championship onto the course and then "silently" holding a club championship, as is the case in many golf clubs - that doesn't suit Apeldör!

Goosebumps for spectators and players alike when the flights (3 people each) play down the final hole, announced and commented on by our favorite DJ Frank Möller, accompanied by groovy sound and huge applause from the spectators. Thanks also to the caddies in the flights, who transmitted the current scores from hole 14 onwards to everyone via live scoring.

There was a fantastic atmosphere among the players and spectators. President Manfred Rathsack then honored the following winners and runners-up on Sunday evening after 25 hours of tournament play and 3,500 results entered:
