COURSE OPENING ALL 27 HOLES

07.02.2025

Dear Apeldör family,

Good news is rare in these times.

Not so with us. Our greenkeepers have done everything they can to keep our course playable for you in winter. We have already seen the results in the last few weeks and months. The fairways and greens are freshly mown and the visual impression really makes you want to play golf.

From now on we want to open all 27 holes daily from 10:30 a.m. and thus suspend the previous winter rules. Come to your club and enjoy the good weather and relaxed golf on summer greens. Unfortunately, trolleys are not yet permitted.

Our “Heidi” will bake extra delicious cakes, so that our terrace invites you to take a little break, whether after a round of golf or as a relaxing weekend.

Starting times: To ensure that everyone can play fairly, players will start from all 1st tees (red, yellow and green) for 9 holes each. Please book your starting time via PC Caddie. A second starting time is required for a further 9 holes. We plan to keep this rule as long as the weather permits.

Have fun!

UPDATE 6

03.02.2025

Dear Apeldör family,

the most beautiful sound of the year??
The whirring of the mowers at the start of the season – a spirit of optimism!
During this week we will mow the greens and, as far as possible, at least the 10 “winter holes”.

In a comparison of the 2023/24 winter season to the 2024/25 winter season, the current season has clearly won. Less rain and much better playing courses. Good! As soon as the courses are drier, we will continue with the drainage work - promised!

THE FIRST KITCHEN PARTY AT APELDÖR

28.01.2025

Kitchen party “our way” on 24.01.25

How did this happen?

At the beginning of 2024, the service and kitchen teams came together. It should be something new. All suggestions from the teams were collected and worked out.

The idea: to work together with our partners. It was a team decision!

115 guests were able to experience the result last Friday.

The motto of our kitchen party:

Fewer seats than guests so that everyone can keep moving and make new contacts. Conviviality is very important!

Managing Director Manfred Rathsack and Restaurant Manager Diane Little opened the evening with a welcome speech in which the individual Life Stations were introduced.

The highly motivated Apeldör Service Team, the “Dithmarscher Brewery” and “Getränke Tadsen” provided a wide variety of drinks.

From “Long Island Ice Tea” to “Hoptails”, a fine selection of wines including expertise and much more, no wish remained unfulfilled.

Our well-prepared kitchen team, the “Feinkäserei Sarzbüttel”, crabs and fish from Tönning (KFT), two sushi masters from “Go by Steffen Henssler” and our trainee Laura spoiled the guests at our Life Stations with baked cheese, cheese skewers,

Fish variations, shrimp cocktail, kale, homemade pulled pork burgers, sushi, waffles and Heidi's cakes at their most delicious.

There was everything from home cooking to extravagant.

For “non-golfers” there was the opportunity to learn more about golf and club life from Ralf Schill and also to secure a trial course.

In a relaxed atmosphere and good mood, good conversations developed. From 9 p.m., DJ Frank Möller really got the guests going. People danced and laughed until the early hours.

Going home was only one option.

Our hotel manager Martina Wagenknecht had taken precautions and reserved the entire hotel for our guests at a top price so that they could enjoy the evening to the fullest, which was gladly accepted.

Our conclusion:

A successful evening!

A culinary journey for the eyes and the palate with a good atmosphere, lots of conversation and a lively party. That's exactly how we imagined the kitchen party.

Many thanks to our partners at the Life Stations, our guests and DJ Frank Möller. You made the evening great. We are very satisfied.

Update 5

06.01.2025

Dear Apeldör family,

Here we are again – different than planned, especially since we will continue our written newsletter for the time being – at least until the new Apeldör APP is available, which we expect in the first quarter of 2025.

First of all, we would like to send our warmest greetings for the New Year and all the best wishes for a healthy and successful 2025 golf season!

And 2025 has started well on your golf course. 100 guests enjoyed a stylish New Year's Eve party with a sensational good atmosphere, excellent food and great music until the early hours of the morning. At 5.30 a.m. the Apeldör team were happy and content in their separate beds after such a successful start to the new year.

We hope this good atmosphere continues and you, the people of Apeldör, have the best opportunities to do so in January and February. Even if the weather is not exactly conducive to playing golf, the estate is an ideal location for small talk among members.

Come along and reward the creativity of the Apeldör gastronomy team led by Diane Little with your visit for a coffee and/or your participation in the events.

You won't regret it.

Kitchen Party on January 24, 2025 from 6 pm

This kitchen party is a first for all of us. In a relaxed atmosphere, you can choose food and drinks at various stations, get to know employees and new members and then enjoy the party atmosphere with the best music from our member and DJ Frank Möller.

We want you Apeldörer to be there.

Of the 70 registrations so far, only 20 have come from Apeldörer members. That is far, far too few!! So just give your favorite golf partners a quick call and make a joint decision to take part. And here's another bargain .

You can also make a package including overnight stay (double room) and breakfast for a very small additional charge of €65 for food and drink . Total cost €99 all inclusive!!

Biike Burning February 21, 2025 from 6 p.m

If you have never taken part, you should definitely be there this year. It is very atmospheric when 120 people, accompanied by 12 hunting horn players, go to the fire pit on the driving range with torches and light the fire with their torches. Afterwards, there is plenty of kale and a serenade from the hunting horn players.

If this break between January 24th and February 21st is too long for you, you are cordially invited to two further events:

On February 8, 2025 at 6 p.m. it's "Wine vs. Beer"

For € 79, the Apeldör team will serve you a welcome drink, wine and beer of your choice and table water as well as a 4-course menu.

On February 14th we have reserved tables for two people each from 6 p.m.!

Why? Enjoy some time together in a cozy farm atmosphere. Welcome drink and a 3-course meal for €79 per couple.

For all events, please make a reservation with Diane Little little@apeldoer.de or by calling the club office on 04836 99600.

Let's dance

If a golf club has particularly talented members among its members and they are also willing to pass on their skills to other members, then you should "take advantage". 13 couples started a dance course yesterday in our winter garden, where you can dance excellently on the oak parquet floor. Under the guidance of Heidi and Harald Gerecke, these couples will optimise their skills over 6 Sunday afternoons and crown it with a stylish final ball.

Sports cooperation GC Lohersand & Gut Apeldör

Exclusively for Premium Members

Dear sports friends,

After a successful start to the sporting cooperation between our two golf clubs regarding mutual playing opportunities, we want to continue this as announced for 2025. A real success model for both sides - almost all places are already taken.

100 players (full-paying or premium members) from each club can take advantage of these benefits.

For only an additional contribution of €100.00 per person per year, this bonus can be used throughout 2025.

Update 4

16.12.2024

Dear Apeldör family,

At this moment you are reading the latest Apeldör newsletter by email. Even if some of you take note of this with some sadness, the digital way of providing information creates advantages for all of us. On the one hand, the workload is reduced, but what is more important: "Apeldör Update" offers up-to-date information - available at any time at https://apeldoer.de/apeldoer-update . As soon as a new update is made, we will print it out and attach it to our information board so that the latest information is available to EVERYONE.

golf statistics

Let’s start with some sporting statistics from the past year and a first look at the golf year 2025:

188 tournaments with 4,515 participants. As in many other clubs, the trend is declining and we want to take this trend into account in 2025. The occupancy of the tee times is also interesting. With our new course division into 3 x 9 holes, we have helped everyone. Not only has our initial skepticism given way to our own experience, the occupancy rates prove it. There was not a single day on which the 27 holes were completely booked out. Regardless of whether we had tournaments and/or guests on our course - every Apeldörer could play every day! The basis for the evaluation is available tee times of an average of 8 hours (8 a.m. - 4 p.m.) between April and October, which corresponds to around 300 rounds per day for 27 holes. While the maximum occupancy during the season on a weekend day was 78%, during the week it was often less than 50%. These figures are below the previous year's figures and clearly show that the new concept with red, yellow and green is beneficial for all of us.

Thoughts on the New Year

We have all heard, seen and read the same news in 2024 and are concerned about the years to come. It is difficult to understand what a few despots are "doing" in our world and there is no end in sight. No matter what we as a small golf club in Dithmarschen think about this global madness, there is little we can do about it. However, we can be grateful that we are allowed to live and play golf here in this part of the world. Perhaps Dithmarschen and "little Apeldör" are actually a piece of bliss and perhaps we should simply realize that more often.

Is it really a catastrophe if a ball lands out of bounds or the handicap goes up by 0.1? Sometimes we overestimate small or seemingly big worries. We had our worries too, which led to the dismissal of our CEO in October. But these were quickly overcome when the Apeldör team, led by Manfred Rathsack, rolled up their sleeves and got ready for the tasks of the coming years at a very successful Christmas party.

We want to offer you, dear people of Apeldörn, an environment where you can put your everyday worries aside, where you can meet golf friends, enjoy the sport of golf and the ambience of our golf course. We have so many plans in our pipeline that we are currently working intensively on, which will improve the flow of information and transparency. Look forward to it!

Thank you for your faithfulness and loyalty, thank you to all the team players who, whether successful or not, represented our club with dignity and camaraderie, thank you to our two friendly golf instructors, thank you to the entire Apeldör team who make our club so special. Not to forget, a silent thought for the members who passed away in 2024.

Happy holidays to you all and a healthy and as worry-free 2025 as possible.

Apeldör Update 3

02.12.2024

First experiences with the winter track sequence

POSITIVE!!! We were surprised ourselves at how well the new drainage systems did their job. Last week we had 84 litres and the pitch and the drained lanes "swallowed" this amount of rain much better than expected.

The comments from our members were surprisingly positive, including for the combination of the 10 courses:

Start RED 1,2,9 continue on GREEN 1,2,3,8,9 Finale on YELLOW 1&9

As soon as the weather conditions allow, we will continue – even in the winter months. However, we want to prevent the construction machinery from putting too much strain on the site.

The Flagpole

An object that has occupied us in many different ways for years. Previously it was simply a question of “serve it or leave it?”, but now the variety of ways of removing the ball after the little ball has been holed is a slightly annoying topic.

Some bend down and try to use two fingers to “fish” the ball out of the narrow border between the hole edge and the flagstick. Risk of injury from the hole edge: HIGH

In order to avoid serious orthopedic injuries when bending over, we have purchased advanced flagpoles with a small integrated plate, which allows the ball to be removed at arm height by lifting the flagpole. It really couldn't be more comfortable, and yet the method of removing the flagpole is often adventurous.

The flags are too often “torn out” at an angle and unconsciously and certainly unintentionally. Risk of injury from the hole edge: VERY HIGH

Just pull it vertically upwards and everything will be fine!

Let's get to the point: Whether with a flag or without a flag - please be a little more sensitive with the hole edge when removing the golf ball. A sharp hole edge helps each of us when putting! Around 40% of your shots on an 18-hole round are putts!

Apeldör Update 2

25.11.2024

Apeldör X-Mas Party

It's not easy to have the entire Apeldör team together in the same place on one day. But with a good 50 employees aged between 16 and 84 from 10 different nations, it was quite good.

This party felt really good and that was important for all of us. 2024 was turbulent due to personnel changes and a very demanding year. We have now managed that. The speeches by Dieter Worms and our newly appointed managing director Manfred Rathsack were good and motivated us all. The “clockwork” Apeldör with its large and small cogs is certainly well prepared for the coming year.

Before dinner, Rita Gand was honored with a large gift basket. She has been active in Apeldör since our founding year in 1996, and she is now 84 years old! She comes early on her bike and, together with her assistant Wiebke, ensures that the entire clubhouse and hotel area has flowering beds and a well-kept appearance.

Georg Gleis was bid farewell after 34 years of greenkeeping and was given a well-deserved retirement. After 32 years at GC Lohersand, he has supported the Apeldör team for the last two years. As a thank you, Head Greenkeeper Nico Habeck presented him with a certificate for lifelong, free golf at Gut Apeldör.

There was a declaration of love for our restaurant manager Diane Little. She received a tasteful present from her team and lots of praise for her team building style. Just a few days after she had just undergone an operation, she was back on board. Exemplary and a very nice signal for all of us.

Head chef Vasily Eckstein's kitchen team had put together an incredibly extensive buffet. Plus cocktails and drinks to order - nothing was missing and everyone pitched in. Frank Möller provided the good music and it was so good that the last performers didn't turn the lights off until 3 a.m.

Thanks to the entire Apeldör team and let's get started in the new year. The pre-bookings for 2025 will ensure there is little boredom.

Apeldör Update 1

18.11.2024

Dear Apeldörer,

Since the beginning of November we have been working on redesigning our website. One menu item is called “Apeldör Update”. Instead of collecting information over a longer period of time and then sending out a newsletter, “Apeldör Update” is continuously fed with current club news.

There have been few updates so far, but that is about to change. We will be much more flexible and up-to-date. But that also means that we will stop sending our newsletter next year. All messages that we publish under “Apeldör Update” will be printed out and put on the information board.

As soon as our new app is ready, updates will be automatically sent via the app as a push message. Exciting for all of us, but also a simple and straightforward way to receive the latest club news in a timely manner.

The contribution index

We would like to explain the model of our contribution index to our new members. Nine golf clubs within a radius of around 75km tell us their contributions for the following year at the end of the golf season. We use these to calculate an average, which then influences the change in our contributions. An automatic process that has proven to be extremely fair and in line with the market over the last 10 years. The adjustment for 2025 is 1.56%.

Table 1 shows how this percentage is calculated.

The second table lists the Apeldörer contributions for 2025. A comparison of the price-performance ratio in the clubs listed should satisfy every Apeldörer.

washing area

It was rarely really nice and clean - our washing area for golf clubs, shoes and trolleys. We have now changed that. Square - practical - good!

Thanks for the many positive comments.

Pitch conditions – winter rules

Bad weather is forecast for now and winter rules apply. START TIMES no longer need to be reserved and only 10 holes are open (GREEN 1+2+3+8+9 | RED 1+2+9 | YELLOW 1+9) . Changes are currently displayed in the Start Times section of our website.

Have a good meal!

A word with a variety of uses and meanings. In Low German = MOHLTIED with a clear message: The “Regional Gourmet Magazine” for Schleswig-Holstein. Most of us know this magazine with exciting gourmet stories from all over the country and with changing regional focuses.

In the current issue 11/24, a manor restaurant right next to a very beautiful golf course is presented - and how!!! This varied report should make every Apeldör resident proud. We have bought 100 copies and are giving them away to our members free of charge. With the request that they recommend the Apeldör manor to their friends and acquaintances.

Apeldör Updates from the past

pro shop

A bit crazy - but what you are reading now is true! We still have 16 pairs of ECCO shoes (2023 models) and 28 polo shirts for men and women in various sizes and colors with the Apeldör logo. Today we decided to sell these stocks so that we can offer new goods at the start of the season. We will not offer any prices in this newsletter, but will give you the opportunity to buy these items on site in the pro shop by bidding. The likelihood that we will find a deal is more likely than not. So let's go - come by and give us a bid that we can't refuse.

heather beds

In November, 7 former bunkers (holes 4, 6, 9, 10, 11, 17 and 18) were planted with 5,000 (!) different heathers. In terms of playing technique, these beds are marked out in blue. They have become real eye-catchers that lighten the seasonal dreariness for us, especially in the autumn and winter months. Thanks to the entire greenkeeping team, who were on duty whatever the weather.

“Stay connected”

I tried to remember these words. They come from Gary Player, with whom I had the opportunity to play a course 7 years ago. "Keep your arms close to your body" would be the direct translation of the two words "stay connected". In this case, however, the heading should have a different meaning. Let's not lose contact with each other completely over the next three months. Heidi's cakes, a cup of coffee, a mulled wine or a bucket of balls on the driving range - come by and keep in touch or in simple English = "stay connected".

4SKILLS Golf Academy

Where were we a year ago and how comfortable has it become for us golfers since then. With Nathan and Roland we have two excellent golf instructors who have never had as much to do as they did in 2024 at Gut Apeldör. We can also see the training diligence in the number of range balls that were hit this year. May the harmonious cooperation between all of us continue in the new year and may the diligence be reflected in the handicap.

Lohersand Golf Club

As a reminder: In the 2023/24 winter season, Apeldörers will pay a reduced and subsidized green fee of € 37.50 for 18 holes at GC Lohersand. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the board of GC Lohersand for the friendly offer. Please note that the club's catering facilities are closed during the winter months.

Red Golf Quickborn

If you want to play without paying a green fee and are prepared to accept a 60-minute drive instead of a 30-minute drive, drive to Quickborn. There you will end up at our 9-hole Red Golf course, where the sandy ground means you can play golf almost any time of the year, even in winter. If you have never been there, you should plan a day trip and then try Saida's homemade cake (Saida was looking over Heidi's shoulder!)

Teich Bahn 18

The planning was different and the goal has not yet been achieved. The waterweed (weeds in the pond) had gotten worse over the last few years, so the mowing boat could only improve its appearance for a short time. The pond had to be pumped out, which began promptly in November. Fishing clubs relocated the fish and the pumps pumped. Unfortunately, the inner banks were so soft that no excavator could drive there without endangering itself. So - wait until frost comes. It did come, but it took a while until the ground was frozen enough for the long-arm excavator. Then finally the excavator came, but after just 2 days the frost was over - excavator stop. And so the excavator stands and waits until either more frost comes or it stops raining. Let's be patient. By the start of the season the pond will be full of clean water again.
